Architectural Design

Architecture is the artistic product and the procedure of designing, planning, and building structures or other artistic works. Architectural projects, in the conventional material form such as buildings, can be perceived as visual works and as social monuments. It has become a highly respected profession with global implications.

Architectural work normally connotes the construction of man-made dwellings, parks, institutional buildings, technical centers, museums, or political buildings. In the United States, most of the architects practicing today are immigrants from other countries. In most of the developed countries, architectural industry has been able to develop close ties with the local culture and to perform the projects according to the local needs and priorities. However, in less developed countries, architecture has often failed to satisfy the local need and this has led to the emergence of non-systematic architecture.

The main current development in architecture is the movement known as the Modernism. In this movement, architecture gives way to an innovative aesthetic discipline, premised on rationalistic thinking. As a consequence, there is a reduction in the usage of decorative ornamentation. The primary focus in this approach is to provide a simple and logical aesthetic satisfaction. The primary aim of Modernism was to create a balance between the practical necessities of the moment and an aesthetically pleasing form.

Non-systematic architecture is a deviation from the principle of conventional architecture, which states that buildings should be in harmony with their surroundings. The deviation is towards the recognition of individualistic individualism and at the same time respecting the community as a whole. Unlike conventional architecture, non-systematic building design does not attempt to combine the basic functional and aesthetic elements. Instead, the architect focuses on the character of the individual building and its relation to the surrounding landscape. The architecture of this type can be categorized into residential, recreational, and industrial uses.

Urban planning emerged as a discipline that concerns itself with the construction of a built environment that respects the built environment and the natural landscape. It is concerned with the provision of space within the built environment and also takes care of issues such as social spaces, transport facilities, residential areas, workplaces and shopping malls. The major focus of this field is on the efficient use of space by ensuring accessibility, relaxation, sustainability and beauty. This is different from landscape architecture, which is the design of cities or regions and their surroundings for the purpose of aesthetic appreciation. Landscape architecture aims at the harmonious co-existence of the human population and the natural landscape.
